Friends of CGWM

Join the Friends today and help support this exciting music centre!

Membership of the Friends provides an invaluable link between the Music Centre and the community it serves. The charity provides vital financial support to the Music Centre through regular grants, and offers direct help to students of the Centre through the bursary fund and the Mary Costello Musical Instrument Fund. The help that the Friends can give depends entirely on the strength of its membership. Each year, the Friends contribute almost £10,000, raised through the annual membership fee, donations, social fundraising events and support from other charitable trusts. Since its foundation in 1997, the Friends have contributed over £85,000 to the Centre

Each year a programme of special events is organised by the Friends. This includes visits to centres of excellence like the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester; performances by the students; major artists, and music groups in various special venues throughout the region and other social events.

The Friends also support the performances of the students particularly in Galeri, and assist the Centre by helping to steward these events, and in other practical ways.

By joining the Friends, you can help turn the hopes and dreams of young people into practical reality— whether they are having a go at playing the drums or striving to become an international opera star!

Bursary Scheme

In 2007, the Friends established a Bursary Scheme to help young talented students meet the cost of their tuition and courses at the Centre, regardless of their ability to pay. Since the scheme was established, bursaries totalling over £20,000 have been awarded to over 50 students.

The Scheme currently costs approximately £4,000 a year and more funds are urgently needed. If you are able to support this scheme in any way, by making a donation, making provision for a bequest or by recommending other potential sources of funds, please contact either the treasurer or the chairman.
