Singing Lesson North Wales

Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias offer regular one-to-one voice tuition for children and adults of all ages and abilities.

We advise every new student to come for a consultation lesson in which you will be able to discuss and set goals with your tutor. Students are given the opportunity to sit practical exams of the ABRSM examination Board or to acquire Rockschool qualifications.

By becoming a Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias student, you will benefit from having various performance opportunities throughout the year at informal concerts such as ‘Llwyfan Cerdd’ where family members and friends are welcome to come along to enjoy your progress. Students are encouraged and supported to take part at these concerts from an early stage.

Further opportunities can include the benefit of receiving tuition from renowned musicians in Master Classes, Workshops and Ensembles. The Friends of Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias have established a Bursary Scheme to help young students with tuition costs. Any student under the age of 25 is welcome to apply.

Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias Chamber Choir

All singers aged between 12–25 are encouraged to become members of the Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias Chamber Choir.

The choir was launched in 2008 to give young, local singers an opportunity to develop aural and sight singing skills and sing classical repertoire in original languages. It has given many highly praised performances, and individual members have gone on to sing with the National Youth Choir of Wales and WNO Youth Opera, and to study at prestigious conservatoires and University Music departments. Some of the choir’s most ambitious and successful performances to date include Bach Magnificat, Handel Zadok the Priest and Fauré Cantique de Jean Racine.

A number of performance opportunities are given throughout the year for which the Choir work with professional instrumentalists and orchestras. The choir meets weekly at Galeri Caernarfon during term time under the bilingual leadership of the professional singer and vocal tutor Jenny Pearson. The choir has been finely accompanied by Steven Evans since the summer of 2014. Singers come from the North Wales area and we are always happy to welcome new members.

Contact us for more information or if you would like to become a member of the Chamber Choir.

Mixed Voice Choir for adults

The Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias Mixed Voice Choir was formed in November 2014 giving locals the opportunity to sing under the leadership of Geraint Roberts.

Geraint has extensive experience in choir leadership, having conducted the Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir successfully between 1981 – 2015. He has received invitations internationally as a guest conductor, including locations in Europ, America, Australia and throughout the UK.

The choir performed at their first public event in February 2015 in support of the Friends of Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias at Bodorgan, Anglesey. They are already eager and looking forward for more performance opportunities in the future!

The choir meet between 1-3pm on Thursdays at Galeri Caernarfon, with a break for tea, coffe and chat at 2pm. We welcome new members; being Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias students or nor, to sing and come together to socialise and enjoy being part of this choir. No auditions are involved. Please contact us for further details and rehearsal dates.
