Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias offer regular one-to-one piano tuition for children and adults of all ages and abilities.
We advise every new student to come for a consultation lesson in which you will be able to discuss and set goals with your tutor. Students are given the opportunity to sit practical exams of the ABRSM or Trinity College London examination Boards.
By becoming a CGWM student, you will benefit from having various performance opportunities throughout the year at informal concerts such as ‘Llwyfan Cerdd’ where family members and friends are welcome to come along to enjoy your progress. Students are encouraged and supported to take part at these concerts from an early stage.
Further opportunities can include the benefit of receiving tuition from renowned musicians in Master Classes, Workshops and Ensembles.
The Friends of Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias have established a Bursary Scheme to help young students with tuition costs. Any student under the age of 25 is welcome to apply.
Ben Muskett Scholarship
“He was a musical firework, a shooting star, a handsome whirlwind” - Sioned Webb
Ben Muskett was one of CGWM’s young and inspiring piano tutors who was also in the early years of establishing himself a bright career as Head of Music at Ysgol Llanidloes. Early in 2011, at just 25 years old, Ben was tragically killed in a road accident.
The purpose of Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias’ Fund in memory of Ben Muskett is simple. It is our way of honouring his passion for music and teaching children and young people.
The aim is to be able to offer some support to promising young pianists for years to come. As Ben was a tutor at CGWM Caernarfon and was hoping to establish a branch of CGWM in Llanidloes, Powys where he was a music teacher, we are eager to make sure that pianists from both areas benefit from the fund. Two scholarships of a £100 is presented annually to avid pianists under the age of 18 – one to a piano student from CGWM, Caernarfon and the other to a pianist from Ysgol Uwchradd Llanidloes.
- 2012 recipients: Gwenno Morgan (CGWM Caernarfon) Cathryn Jenkins (Ysgol Llanidloes)
- 2013 recipients: Alexander Stevens (CGWM Caernarfon) Jodie Green (Ysgol Llanidloes)
- 2014 recipients: Catrin Gruffudd (CGWM Caernarfon)
